Charities We support 

One of our major aims here at Adventure Fishing Holidays is to try to give a little back to the communities from which our customers come from and to the countries we visit.

We feel that by making a small donation for every completed booking made via our website, we can help those around us.

We have two very worthwhile charities here in the UK in which we are closely involved.

By donating UK£5to these charities for every booking taken, we hope that we can make a very big difference.

Helen Rollason Cancer Charity

Helen Rollason was a much-loved BBC Sport presenter who fought her battle with colon cancer in the public eye. Helen was the first woman to present BBC's Grandstand and fronted the children's programme, Newsround for three years.

Helen was diagnosed with cancer of the colon, and later of the liver and lungs, in August 1997, yet she maintained a considerable workload throughout her illness. Throughout her 50 sessions of chemotherapy, and despite losing her hair and energy from the treatment, she never missed a day at work. "I'm working because I love it, and because I feel best on the days when I'm busy," she said. She was greatly admired by her colleagues and friends for the incredible tenacity she demonstrated. She never made a fuss over her illness and even joked about glowing from the chemotherapy "I reckon I must affect every piece of electrical equipment I go past".

One of the most touching moments of her career came during the BBC Sports Review Of The Year programme in December 1998, when Rollason's colleagues paid her a special tribute, which produced the longest and most spontaneous applause of the evening. "It must have been awful for people at home. How boring!" Helen said later: "I was embarrassed and thought I was going to cry, but I was touched that my colleagues did that".

In 1997, she launched the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Appeal, trying to raise £5m for a new cancer wing at the North Middlesex Hospital where she received most of her treatment.

Huw Richards, a BBC colleague of Helen's summed it up: "Her hallmarks are modesty and generosity and they explain her tremendous popularity among colleagues and the viewing public"./

Shortly before she died she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours in recognition of her services to broadcasting and charity: "I cried when I received the news," she said. "I don't feel I deserve it but I'm very thrilled that so many women are coming through in sports broadcasting now".

Just before the final round of her two year fight with cancer, Helen said: "When you get older, if ever you get cynical, look back and remember how people cared. I've seen how much my friends love me. I'm very lucky because most women don't know that in all their lives, do they?".

elen lost her battle with cancer in August 1999, aged 43.

Help for Heroes

Help for heroes is a charity that helps in the rehabilitation of wounded serviceman and women, who have given so much for this country. It was the idea of Bryn Parry and a group of friends and relations, many of whom have connections with serving servicemen and women. Bryn and his wife Emma wanted to do something to help the wounded and came up with the idea of a sponsored bike ride. They mentioned it to some friends, who mentioned it to more friends and suddenly Help for heroes was born and growing fast. A flurry of visits to various offices led to the campaign being blessed by the head of the army, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt.

Help for heroes does wonderful work for soldiers and other servicemen and women both directly and through its support of other service charities.
